A float value is a decimal attached to an individual CS2 finish. Lower values generally mean less visible wear; higher values mean more. It does not change over time or through play.
THE FIVE EXTERIORS.
Most market names use one of five standard exterior grades. The boundary at exactly 0.07, for example, separates Factory New from Minimal Wear.
0.00—0.07The cleanest standard exterior grade.
0.07—0.15Light wear with most finish detail intact.
0.15—0.38Visible wear across common contact areas.
0.38—0.45Heavier scratches and finish loss.
0.45—1.00The broadest and most worn grade.
NOT EVERY SKIN USES THE FULL RANGE.
A paint kit defines its own minimum and maximum. AK-47 | Redline starts at 0.10, so it cannot exist in Factory New. Karambit | Doppler ends at 0.08, limiting it to Factory New and Minimal Wear.
WEAR IS NOT PLACEMENT.
Float controls the wear system. Pattern seed controls how a texture is positioned. Two skins can share nearly the same float while showing very different Case Hardened color distribution or Doppler phase.
