One Roster Swap, One Sticker: How Bucharest Is Writing Singapore's Sticker Sheet

On Monday night in Bucharest, FUT beat Vitality. By Tuesday morning, the most valuable object in Counter-Strike had quietly changed hands: not a knife, not a case — a sticker.

Justinas "jL" Lekavičius is now part of Vitality's VRS core, which means PGL Major Singapore 2026 will print jL stickers and not apEX stickers for the most-watched team in the game. Five maps together was all it took. Dan "apEX" Madesclaire, a player who has been on Vitality rosters since 2021, becomes a footnote in a sticker sheet that will be sold for tokens in December.

That is the strange economy this week's PGL Masters Bucharest event is quietly deciding. Not the trophy — the merchandise.

A Cutoff Date That Decides What Gets Printed

The tournament itself is a standard PGL Masters card: 16 teams, $1,250,000, Swiss best-of-three groups from October 24 to 31 at PGL Studio in Bucharest, top eight into the playoffs. On its own, that is a mid-tier event.

The stakes are elsewhere. Bucharest is the last big LAN before the VRS invite snapshot on November 2, the ranking cut that decides who gets a Singapore invite and — more importantly for traders — whose logo, autograph, holo and foil get manufactured at all.

So while analysts argue about map pools, the actual money is being decided by things like this: Vitality lost 1-2 to FUT in the Swiss stage, then beat NAVI 2-0 to reach the playoffs at 3-1. Aurora beat Liquid 2-1 to also go 3-1. MOUZ took Spirit down 2-1 in overtime on Mirage. Spirit had already dragged FURIA back from 9-11 down on Mirage to win 2-1. Every one of those results nudges a VRS number that decides whether a team's stickers exist in December.

That is the part fans miss. A sticker is not a souvenir of a team you like. It is a manufactured object with a supply count that Valve sets, and the roster rules set it just as much as the ranking does.

There is a commercial reason teams care so much about the cutoff, too. Valve splits 50% of all revenue from the Major Shop and the Viewer Pass between the tournament organiser, the teams and the players. A team that misses the invite loses its shop revenue, its sticker line and its cut of every token spent on its logo — for a whole Major cycle. Vitality's result against FUT on Monday did not just move a ranking number; it moved who is contractually on the sheet when the shop opens in mid-November.

The Capsule Era Ended in May — Most Buyers Haven't Noticed

Here is what changed, and it changed the entire sticker trade: since May 2026 there are no sticker capsules. Valve removed them ahead of IEM Cologne Major 2026 and replaced them with an in-game Major Shop.

The new system runs on tokens. You buy and activate a Viewer Pass — it cost $9.99 at Cologne, with a roughly $18 bundle that added 900 bonus tokens — and you receive a Challenge Coin. Correct Pick'Em picks upgrade that coin from Bronze to Silver, Gold and Diamond, and each upgrade pays 300 tokens. Tokens trade at roughly 100 tokens per $0.99.

Then you spend them on specific stickers, and the price is demand-driven: a sticker gets more expensive as people buy it, cheaper as interest fades. Valve even added a consumer-protection wrinkle — if a sticker's price drops by more than 25 tokens within 24 hours of your purchase, the difference is refunded in tokens.

Under the old system, you could not buy the sticker you wanted. You bought a capsule with a random draw inside and hoped. That randomness was the whole investment thesis: capsules were lottery tickets with a fixed print run, so unopened capsules aged like wine.

Why Old Capsules Still Cost 60x More Than New Ones

The numbers on the secondary market show exactly what the design change did to scarcity.

  • Katowice 2019 Legends (Holo/Foil) capsule: about $12.09, from an era when capsules were the only route to those stickers.
  • Paris 2023 Legends capsule: about $0.11, with more than 139,000 Steam Market listings.
  • Budapest 2025 Legends capsule: about $0.18 on roughly 22,000 listings.

Paris 2023 was printed into oblivion because everyone knew capsules were the only container and Valve kept selling them at a discount near the end of the event. Katowice 2019 sits at 110x that price because the supply was never repeated.

The Major Shop removes the container from the equation entirely. There is no capsule to hoard, no unopened supply, no lottery ticket. What you can still own is the sticker itself — and, crucially, the souvenir weapons, because the Souvenir-O-Matic lets you convert any normal or souvenir weapon you own into a Souvenir with gold team, autograph and map stickers from a match and player you choose.

Souvenir skins are also now valid trade-up material, which was not true before. That single line in the patch notes quietly attached a whole legacy category to the trade-up economy.

Where the Real Demand Sits Now

Strip away the mechanics and you get a simple read on what to watch in the next six weeks:

  • Roster stickers are event-driven, and they are decided by roster math, not by form. jL replacing apEX is the clean example: same team, same event, different sticker, and apEX collectors just got a closed print run.
  • Souvenir weapons are the last "container" in the Major economy. They are made to order, so supply tracks demand instead of the other way around.
  • Old capsules keep their premium precisely because they cannot be recreated. Katowice 2019 at $12 against Paris 2023 at $0.11 is not a market inefficiency — it is a supply fact.

One more date to put in your calendar: PGL Major Singapore 2026 runs November 25 to December 13, with the playoffs at Singapore Indoor Stadium, 32 teams, a $1.25 million prize pool, and — new for the Major format — a third-place decider match. It is the first Major ever held in Southeast Asia. Valve has not announced the shop patch, but the last two Majors shipped their Major Shop and Viewer Pass roughly 11 to 12 days before Stage 1, which puts the Singapore item update somewhere around November 13-14.

Which means the Bucharest playoff bracket you are watching this week is, functionally, a sticker pre-order form.

Still Wondering?

Do stickers from Bucharest exist? No. PGL Masters events are not Majors and do not get tournament stickers. Bucharest only shapes the VRS ranking that decides Singapore's invite list and sticker lineup.

Is the Viewer Pass worth it? At Cologne it cost $9.99 and paid 300 tokens per coin upgrade plus a Pick'Em path. If you intend to buy even a handful of stickers, the pass was cheaper than buying tokens outright.

Should you buy the jL sticker? Nobody can answer that for you. What is verifiable: it is the first Major sticker printed for jL on Vitality, and apEX's Singapore sticker will not exist.

If you would rather hold something you can actually play with while the sticker market sorts itself out, the Fan Favorite case and the rest of the SkinVS marketplace are live now — real inventory, real prices, no token math required. Roster drama is fun to watch; it is a terrible thing to bet your whole inventory on.
